Icy Bridges Cause Pileups On North Texas Roads

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 News) – The Texas Department of Transportation prepared for potential ice and sleet Sunday, by pre-treating roads on the north side of the DFW Metroplex.

Bridges and overpasses, from Denton to McKinney were covered with salt and/or sand in anticipation of accumulation.

And while serious accidents were at a minimum, the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol responded to multiple pileups attributed to the slick conditions.

On the 100 miles of DFW area tollroad, troopers responded to approximately 20 accidents, Sunday afternoon, including a crash involving multiple cars on the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

TxDOT will monitor roads overnight; a spokesperson is telling drivers to expect delays with the morning rush hour.

A spokesperson for Texas DPS echoed that statement, saying not all icy patches will be dry by morning.
